Castro is for this reason and many more, that

Castro
responded to overlooked international disasters hastily and graciously while
these so-called, considerate first-world countries, would not. Nina Lakhani
(2010), in an article published on the Independent states, “In fact, Cuban
healthcare workers have been in Haiti since 1998, so when the earthquake struck,
the 350-strong team jumped into action. And amid the fanfare and publicity
surrounding the arrival of help from the US and the UK, hundreds more Cuban
doctors, nurses and therapists arrived with barely a mention. Most countries
were gone within two months, again leaving the Cubans and Médecins Sans
Frontières as the principal healthcare providers for the impoverished Caribbean
island.” (2010) What made this act so credible in this long list of
achievements, was how little to almost no attention it received from the world.
The ability, to already have aid there helping the Haitians through poverty
since 1998, and then send 1200 trained Cuban nurses and medical professionals
after the crisis to help, should have resonated throughout the world. Instead,
it requires a bit of digging around to find out about, unfortunately, because
the great leader that Fidel Castro is does not fall in line with the heroes
America is used to.

The
inability for Americans to see eye-to-eye on Castro’s rule, has perhaps drawn
more attention than Castro’s acts of peace. The shocking component about Fidel
Castro, is the evidence and claims of all his humanitarian actions, has been
buried deep within history most likely in an attempt to not be discovered. It
is for this reason and many more, that the extremely unpopular opinion favoring
Castro’s rule, claims that Fidel
Castro’s greatest achievements as a prominent communist leader have been ignored
in humanitarian and international history. To go from classifying as someone
who knows nothing about politics to becoming an icon in anti-imperialistic
politics, Castro, despite negative remarks, was an important figure in the
fight against racial injustice and world poverty.
