·
Last
year, President Trump decided to sign a bill to defund Planned Parenthood due
to their abortion services

·
And
for those who don’t know what Planned Parenthood is, it’s one of the largest
reproductive health care provider in America where they’ve helped around 2.4
million people annually

·
One
thing that a lot of people don’t think about is that Planned Parenthood
provides a great deal of services for everyone including men and teenagers such
as birth control, cancer, pregnancy, abortion, sex and relationships, sexual
orientation and gender and STDs

·
Trump’s
action of defunding Planned Parenthood due to their abortion services is
problematic to the country where the law against it should be revised as it
doesn’t just block abortion services but it affects women of colour, individuals living in rural areas, and those with low incomes
who need the other services that Planned Parenthood provides.

Argument
#1

·
One
of the issues of defunding Planned Parenthood is that millions of individuals
in America rely on it because they are discriminated from other health
institutions due to their ethnicity and race

·
Black
and Latina women face more inequality than white women where they are less
likely to be provided with preventive screenings leading them to have higher
rates of being diagnosed at later stages and will probably encounter poorer
wellbeing results

·
According
to a 2014 report from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Latinos and
African-Americans encounter 30-40% poorer health results than white Americans

·
“This is just one more example of
Donald Trump’s White House and this Republican Congress taking every single
opportunity to chip away at women’s rights, and we won’t stand for it.”
Stephanie Schriock, the head of EMILY’s List, a Democratic political action
committee.

·
Because
of these barriers, black and Latino women aren`t receiving the proper medical
care that they are supposed to be receiving but  Planned Parenthood provides professional and
proper services to everyone no matter the circumstances

Argument
#2

·
The
defunding of Planned Parenthood will not just have a negative impact on
coloured individuals but it will take toll on people who live in rural area

·
15% of the population live in rural areas
of America and this means individuals who live in rural areas would most likely
have to travel further to get healthcare services which are time-consuming and
costly

·
Jamie
Benner is an individual who had this issue and Planned Parenthood saved her
life

o
She
noticed a lump on her breast and when she went to get it checked out, her local
provider told her that it would take three weeks to see her

o
Keeping
in mind that Jamie is from a small town of Rodman, New York with only a
population of 1,200 in 2016

o
She
resorted to Planned Parenthood and she got examined and had a mammogram  done on the same day however her results were inconclusive
so Planned Parenthood booked an appointment at a clinic in Rochester where they
treated her on the same day

o
If
Jamie waited the 3 weeks for her local provider, her cancer would most likely
become more advanced resulting stage 4 breast cancer

·
What people don’t know is that almost 54%
of Planned Parenthood health centers are in rural areas or in areas where there
aren’t as much medical centers

·
As the defunding of Planned Parenthood
comes into effect, there won’t be enough reproductive health care providers to
continue the work that Planned Parenthood
centers can provide  in one year

o   Sara
Rosenbaum, a professor of health policy at George Washington University says,
“The notion they can suddenly ramp up their capacity to absorb all of the
services Planned Parenthood can offer … is absurd.”

Argument
#3

·
Not
only people who live in rural areas will not receive proper health services but
those who can’t afford health services will be in jeopardy as well

·
There
are more than 45 million people living the poverty line in the United States
and with the block of Planned Parenthood, it will block millions of people who
rely on Medicaid and many other health care programs at Planned Parenthood

·
75%
of Planned Parenthood patients have low income where they make at or under 150%
of the federal poverty level

·
Women
with low income are faced with inequality in health care access which affect the
service that they need however Planned Parenthood offers reasonable healthcare
fees compared to a regular doctor’s office

·
Planned
Parenthood is involved in a federal funding program called Title X which helps
provide birth control, GYN care and other services for women that aren’t able
pay full price for health care services

Conclusion

·
The
law for defunding Planned Parenthood should be revised as it  only results more problematic outcomes for minorities,
those living in rural areas and individuals with low wages

·
If
Planned Parenthood shutdown, women of minorities will continue to receive unequal
health services, those who live in rural areas will continue to take long and costly
trips to access healthcare services, and individuals with low income will never
receive the proper care that they need due to the fact that they can’t afford it

·
Trumps
reason for defunding is insufficient as its more for himself than for the people
of America

·
“I
am pro-life and I am deeply committed to investing in women’s health and plan
to significantly increase federal funding in support of non-abortion services
such as cancer screenings. There is an opportunity for organizations to
continue the important work they do in support of women’s health, while not
providing abortion services.” – Trump

·
Trump’s
decision will not just leave 2.4 million patients without access to care, but
it takes the away women’s rights to have control over their own body

·
This
bill makes it even harder for these individuals to get the care that they need
in light of the fact that it’s already difficult to get the care that they need
