                                                   My Soda Interest                           As we all know, soda is very tasty. The first soda company to be invented was in 1850. Soda is only good when it has a fizz to it. Without the fizz soda is unpleasant and hard to enjoy. Soda is the worst thing for your health but it is the tastiest thing to drink.  Americans drink about 300 more calories per day than they did a generation ago. Soft drinks account for half of the increase. Sweetened beverages are the largest source of added sugar in the American diet.The average American consumes over 50 gallons of different soft drinks each year. The average American 132 calories per day of High Fructose Corn Syrup. I’m fascinated by the bubbles produced in soda when you open it.  I’d like to know what goes flat faster, warm or cold soda.                                                      The History of SodaSoft drinks can be traced back to when Mineral Water was found in natural springs. The first marketed soda was made by Joseph Priestley and appeared in the 17th century as a mixture of water and lemon juice sweetened with honey. In 1676 the Compagnie de Limonadiers was formed in Paris and granted a monopoly for the sale of its products. Vendors carried tanks on their backs from witch they dispensed cups of lemonade. In May 1886, a pharmacist named John Pemberton invented Coca Cola, the largest soft drink brand still around today. Charles Alderton was an American pharmacist, and the creator of the sweet carbonated soft drink Dr. Pepper. Charles Hires Sorry invented HIres Root Beer which is a soft drink which was marketed by the Dr Pepper Snapple group. Introduced in 1876, it is considered the 2nd longest continuously made soft drink in the United States. The drinking of either natural or artificial mineral water was considered a healthy practice. The American pharmacist selling mineral waters began to add medicinal and flavorful herbs to unflavored mineral water. Early American pharmacies with soda fountains became a popular part of culture. Their customers soon wanted to take their drinks home with them and a soft drink bottling industry grew from consumer demand. Over 1,500 U.S. patents were filed for either cork, cap, or lid for the carbonated drink bottle tops during the early days of the bottling industry. Carbonated drink bottles are under pressure from the gas. Inventors were trying to find the best way to prevent the carbon dioxide or bubbles from escaping. In 1892, the “Crown Cork Bottle Seal” was patented by William Painter, a Baltimore machine shop operator. A child’s risk for obesity increases 60% with each additional daily serving of soda. Soda consumption may increase the risk of hypertension, diabetes, and tooth decay.                                                             What is Soda?     A soft drink that typically contains carbonated water, a sweetener, and a natural or artificial flavor. The sweetener could be a number of things including sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, fruit juice, sugar substitutes, or some combination of any of these.                                                                                                               Why Soda Goes Flat?              Sparkling waters, wines, and sodas fizz because of carbon dioxide dissolved, at high pressure and low temperatures in every can and bottle. Carbonation adds a weak acid that gives your soda a tang while also playing the role of a preservative in your soda or alcoholic beverage.              When you open a soda, the pressure in a can or bottle decreases causing carbon dioxide to escape in bubbles. Leave a can open for a long time and the soda will lose its fizz, making it unpleasant and unenjoyable.                                                      What is Carbonation? Carbonation is a solution of carbon dioxide gas and water. The carbon dioxide is generally kept in the water through pressure (either in a bottle or in a natural spring) and will slowly release once that pressure is relieved, forming bubbles of carbon dioxide gas.                                                Mineral and Carbonated Water       Carbonated Water, Fizzy Water, Sparkling water, and Bubbly Water are all pressurized with carbon dioxide to produce effervescence. Carbonated water usually occurs naturally. Water from certain mineral wells is the same case, it occurs naturally. Carbonated water can be artificially created with carbon dioxide tanks or cartridges. Mineral water is an umbrella term that refers to flat and  sparkling water from a mineral well.
